another option is always the ESV (English Standard Version) which is inbetween the NASV and NIV, they do poetry well and still try and keep grammar and syntax as much is necessary. i use NIV personally but i like ESV too.

For my first few years at Calvin, I carried around two Bibles because my good one was missing the entire book of Genesis.
I would say your options are pretty much the NIV and the NASV. Go with NASV if you want more of an absolute literal accuracy to the translation. Go with the NIV if you want more of an effort towards clarity of the meaning. I'd go with NIV because it does clarify meanings a little better and because the language is more artfully considered. The poetry of the Bible works better in the NIV than in any other translation.

I find it interesting that we're learning some of the same things right now about learning patience vs. waiting for God. Although not surprising based on our common existence... We should chat soon.

i know all of your deepest darkest secrets anyway. but you should keep blogging, even if none of it is serious.

about this post in particular: i think that's a very wise approach. as much as i tease you, you do impress me. there are simple lessons we miss sometimes because we've heard them since childhood such as "he's got the whole world in his hands" and that does in fact include you and your life at every single moment.

Huzzah for more sleep, more social life, and lots of ensembles. Any chance you have any long weekends this semester? Like, a weekend that would be long enough to make it worthwhile to come out and visit you?
